I started blogging a few months ago, partially out of boredom and partially because I have a lot of opinions to share. :-D

I've picked up quite a few followers since then and I was recently contacted by a company who offered to send me their product and I would review it on my blog (previously I've just been reviewing products on my own).

I decided I'd like to actually do this more. I already have the link to my blog on several social media sites but I'm kind of unsure how else to expand my audience.

Does anyone have any advice for me? (without spamming places ofc lol).

That's awesome, Dy. I play golf with this woman who's daughter makes a living out of blogging and reviewing products. She started doing it after she had her baby. She specifically targets things for mothers and the kids. She started it and all the sudden there were products sending her all sorts of stuff. She started a facebook page as well (the only reason I know is I just looked it up since I have no interest in things for kids anymore since I have older teenagers). I'm pretty sure she makes a decent amount of money from it.

I'd come up with a name for your blog for sure and start a facebook page too.

    Link us to it. :)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

Agreed - try to come up with a catchy but unusual name for the blog/FB page (if you haven't already done so). Good luck - sounds like fun!

Ok thanks guys :) I created a FB page like suggested, although I'm not entirely sure how to get people to like it? :-D

Here's a link to my blog. Let me know if there's anything I should change?

Unless you are independently wealthy, DO NOT promote your Facebook page! The way FB has pages set up, only about 10% of the people who "like" a page will see any given post. They will charge you a minimum of $5.00 per post, per day, to ensure up to 1/4 of the people who like your page will see it. It's crap.

Go through your friend list and send invites to follow your page. If you belong to any FB groups, mention you just started one. It takes a while, but eventually people will come.

First thing I noticed about the blog is the colours. It's really hard on my eyes to read white on black, and leaves after-images for a minute once I look away. I did just start following you, though, because that is EXACTLY my interest niche! Also found you on Facebook, and will promote you among friends. :-D

Cool! Bookmarked it. Off the wall suggestion, low sodium spices and marinades/rubs. :cool

Thanks! What colors do you suggest would be easier on the eyes?

Hmm.. that's a good idea. I'll think about that. :)

Of course, all people have different opinions, but in general a dark colour text on a light colour background is better for me, with a fairly sharp contrast between them.

This is really cool, Dy :) Don't have any suggestions as of yet, but I like the looks of your blog page. Nicely done!

I like the look, dy. Looks like you changed it. Going towards Beth's point, I would make the font more bold. It's a bit muted and hard to read. I think the colors look great though. Great blog.

So what are subscription food boxes? I've never heard of that. I wouldn't mind telling my daughter who lives at school. If you get them free, she may like to do that.

\Fantastic blog Jen ... really like.

I would loose the sunset pic and add something like lemons or fruit as the backdrop, but saved as a bookmark for me, as I have always wanted to try a GRAZE box for free as they advertise them for a trial I the UK.

    Mmmm...graze boxes.... :drool:yum

Nice blog Dy! I bookmarked it too, hun!

Sub boxes are boxes (whether it be food or something else, they seriously have boxes for everything) that get mailed to you monthly. Usually they are a surprise, but sometimes (depending on the box) it can be customized. They aren't free as you do have to pay monthly for them (some are as low as $10).

However, you can find deals like first month free (pay shipping), or something similar. This is how I usually test out my boxes. I think they are great idea because it's like Christmas every month (lol) getting a box of surprises!!! Sub boxes are also nice to send to someone as a gift who's a hard to shop for, is far away, or as a surprise.

I liked your idea, so I stole it. Let me know what you think of the update.

I heard the snacks graze boxes in the UK were better than the ones they have in the US, so I'm a little bit jealous. :p

Do you need a friendcode to sign up for graze in the UK?

Hahahaha, but it looks superb, nice fresh looking page and the fruit image you found is perfect. This is what you need to promote food, is a fresh page.

Only thing now that I would change is your signature s the way it is now its hard to read, yellow is a good colour but hard to read at times, so just needs a small change, and see below as I gave it a whirl! ;)

Thank you I love it! I was eventually going to get around to changing mine but hadn't had the time yet. You don't think the color is too light do you?

  21. Fred_G

    Fred_G Heat packin' geek

Looks to light to me, with a white background. A black outline would set it off well.

Oooh, I have no idea Dyamond. :confused Apparently I can get a "NIBBLE" box. (A half sized graze box) :-D

Yeah I do think the yellow is too light, but went with it as you had that colour already. but think of a colour you like and I will change it and change the small error in the i hearts tittle (no its not a dirty word!).

the drop shadow is wrong side

I really do love the yellow but I think it's just too light with the white background now. I was thinking maybe a red, to match the color of the apples in the background.. What do you think?

  25. Caliban

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

I ain't David but I think the red would look nice. I tried both red and your brown link color - red (or any red (apple) variation) looks better to me.

My first thought was pink but I thought it would be too light like the yellow. Then I thought red, I don't know what shade red though.

    |Hey Jen , hows your blog going as per hits? never know as if Whatsapp hit $19bn that a neat idea out of the box may take off, that's why I think website ideas are worth following up and see where they go. its not too expensive to have a domain and hosting. I'm developing mine slowly!!! :)

  32. dyamond

    dyamond Imelda Marcos of Majorgeeks

I've been really super busy and I've haven't a chance to really check on it or post as much as I like. So it's probably growing at a much smaller space than if I had a lot more time to dedicate to it.

I don't want to pay for hosting until I'm booming, I don't really see the point in it right now but it's a good idea!

  33. DavidGP

    Hey

Slowly is really good and I would not pay for hosting until you hit a few 1000 hits per week plus, and then adding advertising to help pay for the costs, I'm ok so far as I have free hosting of my site, could do with remembering the bloody password to the site since I moved it from Wordpress as I need to update and have loads to post waiting.

Being super busy in real life is something I know only too well, I really take on huge amount as I will give it a GO! so hope your super busy is a good $$ thing for you...??

  34. dyamond

    dyamond Imelda Marcos of Majorgeeks

I'm not near that at all but I am getting there slowly. It's something I want to stick with as I really enjoy do it.

Oh yea, I've been busy enough to forget to announce I've landed a job! The hours are kind of kicking my tail at the moment but it should ease up soon (hopefully).

Fantastic, congrats Jen, what are you doing?

I always say things should ease up soon -- HOPEFULLY, never happens, been doing a few work related things in past two days, really should stop.
