A few Oblivion problems

Hi all

I started playing Oblivion a few weeks ago (yeah I know I am behind the times) it runs ok as far as my hardware is concerned but it is the glitchiest game I have ever played. I had to reinstall it once because it started crashing on loading. Now I have a weird problem where if I put any items down on shelves, the floor etc, when I load my save and come back they have disappeared. So far this problem has cost me about 4 hours of game play because I put loads of stuff in a house I'd bought then came back to it later and it had all vanished

I have no idea what's going on, I can't find anything on Google and no-one seems to have heard of this happening. I decided to re-install again to see if that would fix it. I managed to uninstall Oblivion and the Shivering Isles expansion packs okay, and most of the Knights of the Nine stuff, but when I try and uninstall the Thieves Den add-on I get an error saying:

Setup has encountered a problem. Please do the following:

- Close any running programs
- Empty your temporary folder
- Check your internet connection

Then run Setup again

I did all that and it still gives me the error.

I'm a bit concerned that if something has gone wrong with this add-on and I can't remove it, it will mess up the game when I re-install it.

I have also tried to install the patch a while ago but I don't think that worked. It said something like it can't replace a file because it found one with the same name but the contents didn't match, and aborted the install.


Does anyone have any advice? Despite the glitchyness I love this game but it's annoying not knowing if it's going to go tits up and lose my stuff at any random time. Like I said I've tried finding info but had no luck. This is the nerdiest forum I could find so I thought I'd try my luck here

I went ahead and reinstalled everything just to see if it worked. It didn't, my stuff still disappears if I put it down, save and reload. I am totally confused :S
