a few questions

i have an acer laptop when i bought it it had windows vista home basic(no instalation cd) i just plugged it and it instaled all the stuff by itself.
Sometime ago all computer went crazy,lost data,lost sound and wouldnt let me conect to the internet to download again the drivers for sound and stuff.
So i got a cd of vista premium from a friend and installed it,it worked but now everytime i start my computerit gives me the option to open with windows vista premium or....windows vista premium(if i select the second it does what was doing with basic before the problems..screen goes black the cursor arrow shows and after that nothing,if i select the first it works ok).
Now on drive D it created a folder .OLD with all the stuff i had from the previous version,but since i had backups of all programs and music,pictures,etc i dont need this i try to delete all that stuff from drive D i managed all except some folders and files from windows and it wont let me format the drive either.
Now i am having a bit of problem with hard drive space,drive C is almost full and drive D only has 30GB free.
Now comes a silly question(sorry i am pretty iliterated about this stuff) should an external memory (those you conect to a usb port) sort out my space problems?

I don't think your question is silly it's an easy one

A external HD can give you tons of extra memory anywhere from 40 gigs to 1 tb. however in reviewing your post it seem you have more pressing problems then extra memory.

 

I know theres more problems but have no clues whats going on
