A little download help needed please....

There is a song in video format (an aspx file) on Nick Jr's website that I want to download and burn onto a CD for my son to play on a stereo, not a dvd.

How is this done please? I know it can be done as I have seen such things on youtube etc. Do I need special software?

Right-click this link, and choose the "Save Link Target As..." option, or whatever option is similar in your browser...:

That will save the video to your HDD; be sure to pay attention to where it is saved, or simply save it to the Desktop, so you can find it easily...

Sorry, but I'm not going to reveal how I found that link in a public forum. However, I will be glad to explain it if you'll send me your e-mail address in a Private Message. I don't have time to type all of the information for you right now (got to leave here soon), but I should be able to write to you within the next 48 hours, if that works for you.

My methods don't work with all media files; some are only available as "streaming" files, which can be much more difficult to capture during download. Luckily, that video is stored on the nickjr.co.uk server in the .WMV format; if it were only available in a streaming format, I might not have been able to help you so easily.

Keep in mind that you'll still have to convert that file to a .WAV, .CDA, or .MP3 format to play it on a stereo. There are many different free programs which can help you with that, though someone else will have to advise you on which one to use.

.WAV files are basic sound files; .CDA files are basically equivalent to the way files are stored on audio CDs, such as the music CDs you can buy anywhere; .MP3 files are compressed sound files, and won't always work in home stereos. My advice would be to convert that .WMV file to a .CDA file if you want to burn it to a CD-R for use in a home stereo... of course, you can also convert it to other formats, to see which ones will work with your home stereo...

BTW, my home and car stereo plays both wmas and mp3s so it'll be ok in this format.

Open the User Control Panel (User CP), then choose "Edit Options" under the "Settings and Options" header. From there, look under the "Messaging and Notification" header, and you should see the check-box to Enable Private Messaging... Hope that helps you...
