A memory problem

I have a older sony vio running PIII with 256mb of ram. I continue to receive a "out of memory" warning. No matter what I clear off the drive it continues to fill up. I have run adaware, spybot, ccleaner, and all norton programs. When I run disk check and set norton to run scandisk on the reboot I get a message saying it can't access ntsf drive. I've never had this problem. I'm hoping someone can direct me. I'm pretty efficient when it comes to computer repair, I know how to access the registers and the such. So lay it on me. Thanks
