:-o So today in biology I ended up accidently mocking my teacher.

How really isn't that important, but long story short he told me to go up and teach the class since i appearantley know it all. He's a humorous teacher and one I respect so I thought he would just laugh along if I got up and said "Quiz cancelled" then walked off.

As it turns out he was being sarcastic and didn't want me actually doing that. Later in class he called me to the hall and asked why did I mock him. I explained that I had no intentions of mocking him and that I was sorry.

The problem is though that I don't know if I made it clear I was sorry. I mean the guy looked a bit hurt honestly so I feel pretty bad. He's one of my top 3 teachers.

So here is my question, should I just go on as normal tomorrow in school and see how he acts around me, or should I do anything else?

You should go to him tomorrow and explain to him that you really are sorry and he is one of your favorite teachers and you didn't mean to be hurtful. There's a difference between being called out by someone and apologizing and actually doing it of your own accord.

Don't go overboard, if he's as good as you say he is he'll know, just give him the respect he deserves

I guess so, but I feel pretty crappy about it. He jokes around with his students a lot so I thought he was also joking with this as well. I guess I must have accidently dealt a mental slap to the face by going up there, impersonating him, and laughing about it with my friends when I sat back down at my group.

The thing that really throws me off though is that the whole time he had a smile on his face, and yet in the hall he looked pretty aggrivated.

In the old days you brought your teacher an apple.

    Just a thought. :wave:wave:wave

That still holds true. I bet he would find it amusing and sincere :)

Now that made me smile haha. Woe is me though for I have no apples and it's 10:24 pm. Thank you all for the help though. Only been here 3 days and already feeling welcomes.

I decided to just apologize one more time tomorrow. Any other thoughts though?

I wouldn't worry about it too much. A 1 on 1 sincere apology should do it :)

honestly, there is nothing wrong with...honesty!

Just tell him what you meant, and apologize. Basically, you will always score points by manning up to something.

  11. Trite

    Trite Private E-2

Yea I tried that but when he let me back in he still didn't look alright. I explained my thoughts to him like you said I should do.

  12. motc7

    motc7 Vice Admiral (Starfleet)

Basically, in the long run, he'll get over it. If he doesn't, then he needs more help than you can provide.

One more thought, you're from Georgia, U.S.

    You are now in Taiwan.

I don't know anything about the culture of the people there, but likely it is very distinct and different than from where you come from.

It is way to easy for a foreigner to inadvertently insult someone, without any malice whatsoever. You may have mistakenly crossed that line by a bit.

So I would advise, in the future, tread carefully, especially when it comes to humor. Pay attention and learn from your peers. What may be hilarious over here may have a completely different meaning elsewhere in the world.

Just curious, how did you end up in Taiwan, from Georgia? :wave:wave:wave

I would put into a quick letter your appology again, a "sort of" formal letter speaks volumes.

I agree with Halo, a good written apology would be in order. ;)

A note to reaffirm you meant no hurt is what I was going to suggest.
Perhaps he was having problems before and that just topped things off.

I agree with the written apology. Maybe he feels you disrespected or even embarrassed him by getting up in front of the class and mocking him (whether intentionally or not). There is a thin line between joking and disrespect, especially with elders. I think if you wrote a nice sincere letter he would appreciate it. :)

Get away!! I didn't get where I am today by not being a brown nosing sycophant. Get over there and stick your tongue straight down the back of his trousers.
On second thoughts, that's not a good idea.
Sorry for being flippant, but seriously, if your teacher has the sense of humour you credit him with, then surely he can see that this is just a way of you expressing your fondness for his wit and easy going manner. After all, you wouldn't have done this to a teacher with the charm and charisma of Basil Fawlty, would you?
Explain again, or, as Halo suggests, write down, your feelings and let your teacher know the way you feel about regretting your actions in class. There are many times I've wished to be able to take back things I've said and done.
Stress the fact that you didn't think of the implications your behaviour could have.
You ain't got to let this eat away at you, either. You could make yourself ill. Take it from an old pro at putting his foot in it, things usually work out right in their own time.
    Good luck.

Ask politely to speak to the class and publicly apologize for the action.Apologize to the teacher and to the entire class in general.
Teacher may believe he has lost face, so a general apology could possibly help restore it and give you a boost in the eyes of the other students.

Its his own fault he bluffed you to come up and teach the class and you called him on it,a teacher should never be out witted by a student or they don't deserve to teach, they have been in the same situation hundreds of times with other students and should have well rehearsed back ups to back ups if they can't manoeuvre a cocky student.

He should have kicked you out of the class as soon as you stood up or forced you to teach the class until you began to cry.

I remember one time a teacher did that to someone in my high school class and the student got up and went to front of the class just as you did and he forced the student to teach the material of which the student didn't understand, the student obviously said I don't understand was bright red with shame and went back to his seat with his tail between his legs.

You did him a favour he'll go home and plan his back ups properly, have a smarter brain implanted so he can out wit his students, grow a pair or quit.

Well to make a long story short my dad's company needed to send some workers over here. He signed a 3 year contract for the Taiwan slot and brought my mother and me along.

To everyone else, thanks for the advice. Going to school now. I decided to visit him at lunch and try to apologize one more time.

Hope all went well today and its good that you recognise and are thinking of his feelings which is a good trait to have, a bit of humbleness and a sorry now and again is whats musding from this workd at the present time.

Thanks. It did go good. He also apologized about raising his voice but I told him I understood that we all get stressed sometimes. We're cool now though so I'm glad for that :)

I would explain that you meant no harm, and thought it was all in fun. Print this thread out, and show him that you humbled yourself in respect to him, in front of the 200,000 members here, knowing it could have went either way for you, from the masses.

That being said, it's hard to tell how a teacher will react to anything. I had a friend in a Math class with me, and one time he thought he bombed a test, so he staples a dollar bill to the corner of it, and wrote "There's plenty more where that came from." Obviously a bribe, but an honest one? Not hardly. The teacher laughed about it, and he ended up doing well anyhow. Though, he didn't get the dollar back. LOL

People ultimately are in control of their own emotions. You're bummed because you're allowing yourself to be. He's hurt because he's allowing himself to be. You can only do so much, and as long as you make the effort, eventually it'll pay off. Good luck!

I think at times a good clearing of the air helps greatly and glad you both amicably came to appreciate each others position from yesterday, so will work in your favour in coming forward and saying sorry, your teacher will be impressed I have no doubt of that.
