Hello everyone. I am new here and this is my first post. I am trying to find a forum that can help me with my varies computer questions.

I know some about computers but diffinately not an expert.

    My first question is................................

What is a great program for dig. cameras for Win XP? I have Adobe Photoshop Album and it does pretty good but I want to do some other things.

    TIA

    Welcome to Majorgeeks :D,

I have one question though, what do you want this program to accomplish? To edit pictures I can recommend Adobe Photoshop or Paintshop Pro. If you mean something else please specify ;)

I have about 700 pictures that I have taken with my dig camera. With Photoshop Album, I can do some editing but I want to do more. Such as the eyes---PS can get rid of the red eye but I can not get rid of the white eyes. I would also like to get rid of some background trash, for example, I have a beautiful sunset at the beach in Hawaii but at the bottom are some peoples heads~~I would like to "paint" over them. I would also like to "clean" up picture's imperfections.

Adobe Photoshop lets you do many things but as for the redness in eyes I do not believe I know how to fix that but I'm sure there's a program to do it.

red eye is really easy to fix. If you're using photoshop, just zoom in to the eye and paint the pupil black. all done.

    Hiya and welcome to majorgeeks:)
Photoshop has a lot of widgets that can help you. Mostly it's RTM and the help files to find out how you apply them. For example, with your "heads on the beach" you could try air brushing them out with a cloned color from the beach sand. PS is a great big application and it takes a long time to learn all its facets.

I took a look at PS Album and you're right. It doesn't do anything much in the way of retouching. You might want to look at Paintbuster4.1 Looks like it's got a lot more tools that PS Album gives you. It's shareware with a 30 day free trial. If you want to register it after that, it's only 25 bucks.

As a web programmer who constantly has to re-build what I receive from my "designer," I am a dedicated Photoshop user. It's really the industry standard and I have found nothing that beats it. There are things it does not do (like make animated gifs), but for image editing and creation, I know no better.

One personal tip, I believe they're up to version 7.5 by now and while I have access to the latest version, I stick with 5.5. It's much less of a resource hog and the new versions have all this extra functionality to map images for web pages. It's like they're trying to become Dreamweaver or something... sheesh. The old system I had at work could barely even load version 6 and there was no way I could use it because I often have 6 applications loaded that are all pretty taxing.

As far as editing images from your camera, my friend who is a digital picture fanatic downloaded some free application on the web and he swears by it. I installed Pshop on his computer and he said it was "too much" for him. To each his own...

I use Unleads PhotoImpact all the time. I remember trying a beta of one of the more popular ones a few years ago and could not get the hang of it.

Yep. Coupla beers should do it. No argument there. :)
