As a young person, I was asked by an older friend today to fix his computer. You know the story.

On his machine is a program, HP Director, which he makes extensive use of. It refuses to run. When the icon is clicked, ...nothing. When the program file is run, it shouts at me, Visual C++ Error!

I know as little about this as is possible. What in the name of Thor's beard is going on?

Thanks for the help, guys. Unfortunately, it was pure user error. Upon interrogating the hapless owner, I turned up a bit of highly relevant information. When reinstalling it recently, he didn't disable his antivirus software when prompted to. I uninstalled, disabled, reinstalled, reenabled, and it works like a charm.
