A quick memory question for you.

I am looking to upgrade my memory to 1GB. Currently i have one stick of ultra pc2100 512MB. I am looking to get a PC3200 Dual channel set, and sell my Pc2100 stick. This way in the future i can upgrade my processor to a 3200+ and get a performance incrase now. (Once the prices come down on the vid cards im going to get a nice one too.)

My question is: Is it worth it? Here is the pack i was looking at.

Please offer some opinions. If you think i shold wait please tell me. I could put the cash towards something else.

Anyhow, the nForce2 chipset doesn't support DDR400 (PC3200) (it does support PC2100 and PC2700). So, obviously, your system won't gain the full benefit of PC3200. It also doesn't have dual channel, AFAIK.

Bottom line is that your system will probably run it at PC2700, but it will end up running slower than actual PC2700 due to timing issues with underclocking RAM. So for the time being it's probably a waste of money (difference between 512 MB and 1 GB is small for most applications) unless you plan on upgrading fairly soon.

 

I think maybe you went to the wrong board or i messed something up. Here is the page for my board.
It does support ddr 400 and it has dual channel. I know that the system will underclock the memory but having it would allow me to overclock if i everwanted to and also upgrade the processor in a year when i go to college. I do mostly gaming so i was hoping that an extra 512mb running in dual would help me out. On of my favorites is BFV. A firend of mine plays with one GB and he uses close to 800MB while playing. If that is accurate then i could use more memory to increase gameplay.
