A Required Priviledge Is Not Held By The Client

Hi. I am using windows 10 and whenever I try to download something, then run it I get the above message. It even happened when I tried to run "Tweaking".
I've seen some "fixes" other places but cannot understand what they want me to do.

When you log into Windows 10 are you signing in with an Administrator user account?

When you try to run a new set up file are you doing that by right-clicking the file and choosing 'Run as administrator'?

 

Hi Max, Thanks for replying. Yes, I am using administrator account for both. I thought maybe it was my WinRar but It happened on an .exe also.

 

Before trying any of the myriad of solutions seen online, first run the system file checker called sfc/ scannow

In Windows 10 right-click the far left bottom 'start' button and select 'Command Prompt (ADMIN)' then simply type sfc /scannow (with a space between c and /) and press enter. Leave it to run.
When it has finished but BEFORE you close that command window, copy and paste the below:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
then press enter

that will produce a short easy to read TEXT file on your desktop.

OK well if you still have the same problem (having restarted your system after that scan completed) you are left with some of the solutions suggested on the internet.

 

Max, do you know where I can get a copy of windows 10 home so I can try to fix the problem rather than having to go back to factory settings?

 

On Windows 10 you can do a Reset and choose whether you want what was called 'Refresh' in Win 8, by choosing 'no don't delete my personal files/data' or a full Reset where it just reinstalls Window 10. That's not a factory settings reset but in any case you should save any valuable data to an external USB Pen Drive or external USB hard drive in case.
