a string of bad luck? - laptop problem now!!

ok, my other post is on the hardware board (about my home computer).

basically my home computer h/d crashed (this last weekend), i've replaced it, and have been up and running, got most all of my network going, etc. now, i was transferring alot of data from my laptop wiressly (sp), to my home computer and i left them on overnight. when i got up this morning, i was going to transfer more, however my home computer it told me that my network connection (for the laptop folder/drive) was not available. i then rebooted my home computer and my laptop wouldn't wake up (come out of screensaver), so i powered off my laptop and rebooted, the laptop started fine but locked up on mcafee startup, so i powered off and rebooted again. well, it started booting up and said os not found, and so i tried again, and it won't boot up (same error). i tried my ms-dos boot up disk, and it won't recognize the c drive.

my laptop is an older gateway (2-3 years), windows xp, service pack2, linsky's wireless card, that connects to my 2wire modem/router (that has a built in hard firewall). i have mcafee antivirus/firewall on my laptop, and home computer.

home computer is windows me.

so, i figure i'm either having some real crappy luck lately, or my network has been compromised (is it possible)?? what can i check? i guess as soon as i get a little cash i'll try and fix my laptop, but i just dished out for the h/d on my home computer 3 days ago. - sosaman
