    Very interesting. I knew that Linux could be infected, but it is still safer than windows. ;)

    This is a bit melodramatic I feel personally . There was a recent case of a Linux vulnerability which people had known of for eight years, but not too many people, and no one had bothered to exploit it. The MS people jumped all over it, but a storm in a teacup.
    Basically the bad guys find so much more to steal from the larger pool of MS OS's that they are targeted vigorously. If you have doubts as to the security of a Linux Distro don't use it, fact is any active vulnerability in Linux Distros will be patched as soon as it's become a risk, and fixed properly. The greatest risk to a Linux OS is the user doing something stupid like logging on as "root" , and following a series of idiotic insecure actions leaving the door open for penetration by a hacker. To do so would actually be very unlikely by accident .
    In comparison we see Win XP (which I love) still getting security updates ten years on .
