a very weird problem

I just got a new (well its not new, its refurbished) dell optiplex 745 (Windows XP SP2) and I am having a problem that I just cant figure out how to fix.

I was going to play a movie but the sound was horribly low, so i turned it wayyy up but it was still barely a whisper. Naturally, i thought it was the speakers so as the movie was playing I disconnect the speakers and I still heard sound... I figured it was coming from the hard drive itself. I couldnt figure out how to up the volume so I went to dells website, searched all the FAQ, read the manual and finally asked them on thier forum (of course I didnt get a reply, even though it was like a week ago, because dell sucks and you guys don't - thats why I love ya ).

So my question is.... is there anyway to turn up the volume on the hard drive? or is there a way to disable the internal speakers and use the ones I bought? the sound is really crappy with or without the speakers. so one with some knowledge help me please!? Thanks mucho!

 

Open Control Panel, click on "Sounds and Audio Devices", click on the volume tab.

 

Laptop speakers are never really good. Try plugging headphones or speakers in to your headphone port and see if that makes any difference, it should automatically bypass the internal speaker if you do that.
