hello,i've recently bought a laptop and has an awkward problem....when i switch it on it takes between 5 to 10 minutes to actually boot, when it boots its fully working with no flaws, when i switch it off and want to start it again immediately it will not boot at all i have to leave it for atleast 30 minutes before i try to restart it and i don't know what could be the problem since when its on it works as it should, please help me as its getting quite annoying
and im really curious to know what the problem is.
laptop is a toshiba equium a210-17l.
i don't really know much about laptops since i always was a desktop user,i built my own watercooled desktop and had no problems but this thing is beyond my knowledge.
at first i tough it might be the bios and tried to flash it but its the latest version and it says it cant be upgraded, maybe it is the bios but i onlyknow how to flash it from windows not from boot.
thanks in advance for your help

When you boot and it takes 5-10 minutes what do you see on screen during that time?

When you try to reboot what do you see on screen? If nothing on screen do you at least get the power lights?

Basically, I'm trying to figure out if it is hanging during BIOS or hanging during Windows starting. And whether or not you are hanging on the Toshiba screen or hanging on a blank screen.

Does it respond the same way if running off A/C power but no battery installed?

I was just doing a quick search of that model number for the specs and there seem to be a lot of similar threads of that model not booting so it may be a known problem.

My original thought was to try removing the HD and see if it boots up faster. And then do the same with the optical drive. I've seen threads where Toshiba laptops freeze on the Toshiba screen when the optical drive fails. I realize you are not even getting to the Toshiba screen when you have a problem but it may be worth trying it with each of those devices removed to see if any difference since they are easy to replace if needed.

Usually the optical drive is held in by one screw from the bottom of the notebook.

ive tried booting without hdd, optical drive and with one ram stick at a time but same thing,i think it's in the motherboard....any way to downgrade bios firmware?

i have the latest bios installed.......and i think the bios battery is soldered on the mobo.....i got in to bios and loaded defaults but still no luck.
laptop packed up completely last night and won't start no matter what....i think my best option is to sell it on ebay for parts or get another one with a smashed screen or missing hdd or something and put the removable parts from this to the other.....
    anyway thanks for the reply
