I just bought a used, but "working" ABIT AN7 Mobo. I'm trying to run it on my workbench, before installing into a case.

Have installed AMD Athlon XP 2400+ CPU with cooler/fan, known good stick of RAM, IDE cable and known good HD, AGP Video card, known good ATX PSU.

I connected the "power switch" leads from a case to the correct pins on the Mobo.

I have a PCI bus analyzer card plugged into one PCI slot.

When I plug in the PSU, LED1 on the Mobo lights, indicating 5VSB, power supply connected. Also the POST code display lights.

Problem is, I can't get the power turned on. No fans, no power indicators on the PCI analyzer.

Is there something else that needs to be connected to run the board on a workbench?

    thanks,
    John

I've done pretty close to the same thing, from the sounds of it it should work. You might see if you can strap the power switch directly instead of going through the case. Some cases (older ones) have 2 power switches, you might look to see if there is another set of wires somewhere.

On the AN7 it needs a little more power so have you connected the 4 pin Molex to the motherboard .. if I remember correctly the wires are Black and Yellow and they plug in just below the PSU on the top lefthand side of the Board.

Thanks, but I already have the 20 pin and the 4 pin connectors in place.

I downloaded the ABIT owner's manual for this board and went through all the steps. Still can't figure out what I am missing.

I'm assuming that connections to the other front panel pinouts (HD LED, Reset, Suspend LED, Power LED, are not needed to run?

Can anyone tell me if shorting the two Power On pins wil act the same as turning on the switch? (i.e. is the switch just single pole, toggle open/closed?)
    thanks,
    John

Might seem a stupid question but have you the Power leads Polarised correctly as i know this can do it,, The Plus and minus are correctly sat on the appropriate pins.
