about:Blank problem

Hi everyone,
I have a friend that has a major problem. He is running Windows 98SE. Here is what he wrote. Just wondering if you guys could give a fix. He is not real comfortable messing with registry files, but thought you guys would help.

I picked up the "About:Blank" adware the other day and it keeps hijacking my home page....I had thought up until about an hour ago that that was the only problem. Just discovered that it's changed many words on BBC to links.... i.e., computer, travel, divorce, financing, etc.,etc. I have no idea as to the extent of the problem at the moment, but can work my way through the site once I'm successful in getting rid of this.
It appears to be adware; not actually a virus (although it might as well be).

I've ran two different spyware programs and done a complete Norton scan and it's still there. I'm now finding that if I'm on the Internet reading something that it will convert many words to links that aren't supposed to be there.
