About fixed IP ?

Hello,

I intend to go awy out of my town for a week or so and I need to access my pc from out side, how can I do that?
I knew that I have to use therd party applcation like Symantec pcAnywhere 11.5 . I fond this free software called VNC and I installed and evey thing looks easy. I opend a special port for it in my linksys router for there is a problem that it require a fixed IP which my ISP does not provide it for free. They suggest me to use a third party DNS management service. I installed this free trail software called Dynip and it gave me a domain name after my IP address AND EVERY THING IS LOOKING FINE.
Now I'm leaving soon and I may not be able to test what I have done. Is there a better and saifer way to access my PC from a broad? Anybody have ever done something like this before? I need help.

I use VNC ALL THE TIME. At work, I can remotely control every machine in the building with it. You sound like you have a good handle on this. The VNC server MUST be running on the local machine for you to be able to control it.

On your remote machine, you open up VNC viewer and type in the IP of the machine you wish to control, and enter the password.

Heh, if you don't have time to test it, just give me your IP, and I'll give it a whirl

Just kidding of course.

As an alternative to VNC, you can always try Window's built in Remote Desktop Connection (RDC), which is available in XP for sure, and 2000 IIRC. You could try googling it for more help.

Thanks Mada_Milty mate for quick responed and I want to ask you, does your ISP offer you fixed IP or changed?

 

To test it just launch the viewer and use the name you set up with Dynip and see if it resolves and lets you get back in.

Things did not work out very well and I not sure why ! I got this error messege " Unable to resolve host by name: no such host is known. ( 11001) "
Anybody could help?
