About Mini's

It was suggested to me recently by two of MG members who stuck it out with me way longer than anyone that I know these days when a crazy issue arises and the best answer is " BUY A NEW ONE " so thanks to plodr and
the skeezix for dedication above and beyond expectations!

So now I'm curiosity has fallen on PC Mini's which I didn't even know existed. Most of the reviews that I've read are less than glowing but are not bad unless compared to MAC MINI's which get glowing reviews.

Most of what I do these days on my computer are simple basic things. The cost of a mini is what makes them most attractive.

I'm listening to all things from this website. So, any feedback, experience, advice will be considered.

If I'm reading the product info correctly one can do a lot with some of the mini's of which there seem to be way more than typical products brands. If that is true, what makes so many companies venture into producing MINI's vs whole desktops? Is the costs of power supplies, motherboards, and other parts that much more to create the disparity between mini's and desktops?

 

I have not looked into minis. For what I do - basic surfing and email, an android tablet or a chromebook suffices. I'm in my mid 70's and my husband is 80 so we rarely need to do any "work" type operations on the computer. For what we do, our four aging Windows 7 computers handle this.

Android tablet and chromebooks cost less than a full fledged computer and updates are less painful than Windows updates seem to be. So far, I haven't had anything break from updates.
I was concerned about one thing - printing. It took me a very long time to get printing figured out on my android tablet. The chromebook was easy. I found directions and it worked the first time which shocked me.

Ask yourself what you use a computer for then look to what suits your needs. Unfortunately minis are so compact that I suspect if something breaks, you will have a difficult time replacing anything in a tiny box.
