I used it for a time, then uninstalled after deciding it's no longer supported or doesn't appear to be. Plus I didn't find any update function as the description suggested. The author's website was no longer accessible either. Anyone care to defend it? And more importantly is it supported now or not?

The freeware utility RegScrubXP utility; was designed to delete unnecessary information from the registry of Windows 2000 & XP operating systems. It is still available on many websites as well as right here at Major Geeks: Lexun RegScrubXP 3.25. If you do a web search you will find few if any complaints about any Lexun Designs products. About the only "complaint" I've ever heard about the RegScrubXP utility is that it has not been updated since 2002.

Although this program works well for many folks; the Lexun Freeware author/developer has shutdown the site and no longer "supports" any of the previous freeware that was developed. The "Lexun Designs" website had a notice on it; [briefly explaining why it was closing down] however for some reason the explanation was removed a little while after that.

A short while back when the Lexun site finally closed down for good; someone [in another forum] told me that they got in touch with the Lexun Freeware developer via e-mail; who said that due to personal reasons, had decided to shutdown the Lexun Designs site but might consider offering and all of the source code, for free to another developer [under certain conditions].

I've heard some very good reviews in various forums that I attend; about another freeware utility Lexun freeware utility called Lexun Backup Solution 2.1 [also available here at MG] which can be used for backing up and restoring files and even entire hard drives. Many folks have told me that this utility is very easy to use this utility; posing few difficulties and requiring little effort. [Note: for Windows 2000 or XP only]

The earliest version of Lexun Backup Solution was just a GUI front-end to the freeware version of Kan Yabumoto's XXcopy, with some pre-scripted functions to automate various common tasks.

Most folks I know who use freeware registry cleaners; either use CCleaner or DCleaner because they both work well, are fairly easy to configure and are updated regularly.

Thanks for the Lexun update...interesting information. I use CCleaner as well and wouldn't be without it.

    Oh anytime. My pleasure, really…

Before I first tried out all three of the Lexun Designs freeware products, I did a pretty exhaustive search to find out if these three utilities were any good from other sites; like forums and freeware sites, etc. and couldn't find a even a single valid complaint. When the Lexun site closed down I was really surprised because the utilities were all so popular, very easy to install, easy to use and most importantly – stable.

Prior to installing anything, I always try to first do a little research on the products - especially ones that I've never heard of - for potential problems, bugs, etc. – particularly those that are "backup types of products" like Lexun Backup Solution 2.1. There's nothing worse that installing a over-complicated or sub-par backup utility, only to find out later on down the line you set it up incorrectly or that it was prone to errors or malfunctions which then proceed to blast your backup files to bytes!

I currently run another very handy and useful Lexun freeware utility as soon as I'm about ready to shut down called Lexun DrvCareXP v.4.2. It takes so little effort to set up and just makes good logical common sense to do so. I actually can't remember the last time I used the standard Windows "Shut Down" button; because I always just use click the Lexun DrvCareXP v.4.2 icon. One or two clicks on the Lexun DrvCare XP v.4.2 icon and that’s about it. It’s automatic after that; as it can be set to "shut-down" when the tasks are complete!

The utility/program can be set up and configured to use the already existing XP system utilities Cleanmgr.exe, ChkDsk.exe, and Defrag.exe to then sequentially and automatically clean, scan for errors, and defragment the users' drives before shutting down [or even can re-boot again, if you prefer].

Additionally, the times for performing this can also be "scheduled" - however I never use this function because it invariably then automatically starts up when I'm right in the middle of something.

While it's sometimes a risk, running utilities or programs that are "no longer supported" or updates - the Lexun DrvCare XP utility is so stable and useful I will continue using it until something better arrives.

Here is the update. Guy came out of nowhere, had some GREAT utilities, they were always popular. Then he disappeared and gave us permission to host them. One day, about a few months back, he re-appeared and made posts that everything would be updated, etc. He updated one or two, then disappeared again. A guess would be he is a busy college student and just cant keep up and will return again like a weird geek superhero ;)

Actually I was comfortable with the interface and let it remove or fix some appropriate items upon my first few scrubs. Now that I'm more savvy at how I use my pc, I decided to remove it although I think it did a reasonably safe job. Plus the WinXP tweak assistant was a nice add on feature. My experience has been that featured software at MG is safe and reliable, and because of MG and learning by doing I've reached the knowledge level I'm at today.
