whats up guys..im really at wits end right now with the issue im having. i can connect with the internet just fine when my cable modem is hooked directly up to my computer..but when i try to hook it up to any router, it wont connect to the internet. ive tried it on my dlink wireless router, i just bought a netgear wireless and it wont work on that, and i also had a broadband router that i tried it on. my isp is cox communications, and my operating system is win xp pro. i was wondering if anyone of you had inkling as to whats wrong here..any help would be appreciated.

You do know it takes more than connecting the cable to the router, yes?
You need to connect to the router and do some configuration so it talks to the cable modem and becomes the gateway fro your PCs.

ok, i do think its an authentication issue. i moved into my new place and bought a different cable modem from the one im using now. i ended up giving my parents the cable modem that i bought but used on this computer for a week, and am now using my original cable modem before i moved.

i checked the MAC address on my router and its using my computers MAC address. the router is configured to obtain an IP automatically.
