About to rip my hair out screaming (removing Firefox tags)

The bookmarks file got corrupted and I lost half my bookmarks but I was able to restore them. The problem? The backup had a bunch of tags I don't use anymore, 'cause one of the addons which I use quite a bit doesn't like them.

Before, I was able to remove them by going to the tag in the library and going ctrl+a then delete. But now I noticed it actually removes the bookmark. And I've tried all the solutions I found on Google -- editing the SQL database, TagSifter, etc, etc. It doesn't work. Only thing I can think of is to remove the tags from the several hundred bookmarks I have tagged.

Any solutions before I rip my hair out?

I'd edit but it won't let me: I counted the bookmarks before and after trying the ctrl+a thing. Apparently, I must have been seeing things: It didn't remove the bookmarks!

    Thanks anyways for looking.
