A clerk at Walmarts was asked by me if they had hard drives. He asked me a few questions: system, (7) purpose for new HDD and about the back up type. No OS disk No "D" drive back up. Sounds like WORMS to me

One option was to buy a jump drive that was big enough to handle all files that I mainly would like to keep private since others have permission to use this PC. I notice that a 256 jump drive can handle every file that exists on the 500gig HDD.

He also suggested installing a separate SDD accessible to me only. And lastly he recommended a new all-in-one on sale for around $300.00 bucks that has OS11 and is up to date

    I'm listening

This DELL 560 Inspiron was a
    bargain version

I don't have the drive/inspiration to do much. But new seems most attractive

I would go with a HDD for backup. Flash drives are not for long term backup. As for an AIO, if you don't usually upgrade your hardware, it shouldn't be an issue.

The problem with those low price systems are they have low end specs. I remember those ultra cheap AIO laptops that came with Windows didn't have enough room for you to update the OS.
    So buyer beware.

"I notice that a 256 jump drive can handle every file that exists on the 500gig HDD." 256MB or GB? And the picture shows a 920GB disk? (likely a 1 terabyte drive), with 92.5GB in use.

Thanks Guys, One of my first Geek posts was about the warning message that is becoming more frequent that my version of windows is not "authentic". If I understood the feedback it may get to a point of no return.
I want to reserve everything, garbage and all. But I can't find a WIN 7 disk although there's a " Drivers and Utilities ALREADY INSTALLED" MS Works 9,
Drivers and Documentation " There's also no "D" drive as a back-up. also an IntelliType Pro CD
Besides those things in the folder there is also a work order from a computer repair company ordered from my brother. In essence it says: HOURLY BENCH TEST " PLEASE CLEAR PASSWORD " Owner Brought in Tower and DISK Repair will take 3 to 5 days provided that FASTER PC has the necessary components, drivers, product keys etc. necessary to complete the job."
    Charge 58.58
    $55.00 hourly 6.50% tax 3.58
That my brother didn't think to ask me for the PW, spent money to " CLEAR PASSWORD " makes no sense to me and this directly becomes an example of how different minds work. My father and brother have NEVER had a PC or a MAC that hasn't crashed in one way or another. I NEVER had anything crash on me.
There is another piece of documentation called WHAT is System Restore? dated 9/10/2010

This is like sending a YUGO to
Stewart-Haas Racing for a tune up
I'm feeling sorry for wasting everyone's time! But as often is the case you guys often give the best answers considering the LUNACY of the question. What will happen I can not say. I can say THANKS for your thoughts and suggestions.

Maybe I can create a stupid things thread if anyone wants to own-up to doing something like sticking a screw driver into an electrical outlet. Or maybe saying something dumb and funny.

Example: in 7th grade I baked an awesome cake: a TALL Chocolate Cake with White FLUFF icing. The BRAINYYACK from across the street just happened to stop over as I was finishing the ICING. His eyes popped out and he asked with sincere interest: " IS THAT A BOX CAKE?" I immediately replied: " NO, it's a ROUND CAKE!" He laughed so hard he wet his pants.
