My Dell Ispirion 1525 has a Touchpad problem, well known if you go to Dell's Forum. It appears to be after lots of posts, angry laptop users, the AC adapter. So I decided to do what everyone is doing, and buy a 90watt adapter. The touchpad jumps around like crazy, and after re-installing the drivers, nothing works..but evidence is leaning to the ac adapter per Dell. They are sending customers 90watt to replace the 65watt..
Well I have mine plugged in and it says >>not charging<<
I haven't got a clue why. Its not a Dell ac adapter, but is compliant, and comes with 16 adapters..
any clue why it wouldn't push a charge thru my brand new laptop..
yes my laptop is in warranty, but after reading the dell forum, I cannot believe what those poor folks are going thru. I can bring it to good guys but they said the irratic touchpad problem couldn't possibly be due to a ac adapter!!!
So I choose my battles, and will not talk to Cust.Serv.in India..:cool
    any help would be apprec.

well i called the company Targus.they tell me the ac-adapter is for running a computer, not charging one. This 90w adapter came with 16 tips or connectors, for charging (it said) but they tell me Dell will not let them sell the tip) for charging their p.c.'s. It is only for running and not charging..Bad advertising on box.!!! It is supposed to charge your cell phone, anything you have at the same time it charges your laptop...WRONG..IT DOESN'T CHARGE ANYTHING, IT ONLY SUPPLIES JUICE TO RUN A LAPTOP.??? I get it, but the advertising on the box says its a charger.??!!
thanks though for answering my question.

neither had I..my husband said, well its just an adapter, not a charger. an adapter is something that will run my laptop even if my battery has 0 % charge, right?

You seem to have received some very bad advice; I can't put much faith in the Dell forum you have been visiting either.

How old is your PC? Is it still under any sort of warranty, extended or otherwise?

The touch pad is the most vulnerable and wearing part of a laptop. They are also easy and cheap to replace.

I doubt very much if the power supply has anything to do with the malfunction, touchpads do not consume as much power as a standard mouse.

The suggestion that a lower spec power supply is only meant to run, not charge the laptop is plainly ridiculous. Laptops are meant to be portable - that is why they have a battery.

Furthermore the laptop, touchpad and all, is designed to operate with no power supply attached, so once the battery is charged, the power supply can be removed and the touchpad etc should function perfectly well on the battery.

My guess is that is is just wearing out.
