    I use Earthlink accelerator.
I disabled it and set it not to come when I turn on pc.
But then when I go online internet explorer wont connect, but netscape does.
So I turn the accelerator on and IE is ok again. I can disable it then and all is stays ok.
I really want to get rid of the accelerator if I can.

I guess I am not seeing something.
But tools/internet options/connections doesnt say anything about netscape or internet explorer.
    What am I missing ???

I am sorry I think I didnt explain myself well.
I have no problem connecting to the internet.
Just getting my IE browser to work without the accelerator being on.
    Thanks anyhow :)

Thats where I said it wrong. It works with Earthlink.
I installed the accelerator then decided it wasnt worth the loss of graphics.
So I fixed the accelerator where it wont start when I turn on the pc.
If I want to use it I can turn it on later.
If I dont turn the accelerator on IE wont work.
But when I turn it on (even if I disable it) IE then works.
Netscape works with or without the accelerator.
I am not good at explaining things.
    Again I am sorry.

Ok let me give a try

    1 Open internet explorer
    2. click on tools
    3. click on internet explorer
    4. click on the connections tab
    5. click on settings
    6. on the proxy settings do you see something like localhost port 8080
    or similar
    7. if you are connecting with a proxy setting then disable it when not using the accelerator
8 go to lan settings and also uncheck the proxy check tab

this is what xflat is trying to get at.

earthlink in order to control the connection and how it works it might be using the proxy settings.

Note: if using the earthlink then you might have to enable it again

It works as an http: proxy server, inserting itself between the internet connection and the browser.. It doesn't matter which browser you use, the proxying is done via System Preferences
