My Access got corrupted and I uninstalled and reinstalled. I continue getting the message "Microsoft Access can't load the 'hBoard' format" It goes on to advise me that the registry entry is incorrect. Is there anyone that knows what this particular setting is? or that can help get my db back up.

I wonder if the message is actually trying to say switchboard format?

Perhaps it is. I posted it exactly how it appears to me except for the outside quotation marks. I've done some looking on the net for what hBoard means and I have found that it is an actual thing, what though is a different matter.

To add a little more. If I just open Access by itself without opening a database it's fine. As soon as I point it to the database it gives me that error. The database is fine because I'm working on it from another computer.

My computer is newer and running XP pro. The other computer is older and running Win98. Yes, I have no choice but to run this database on Access 97.

Any suggestions, hints, or tips would be appreciated.

Have you tried a repair install of Access?

I have tried a repair, uninstalling and reinstalling, system restore, repair installation of WinXP and installing some old updates on microsoft's website for office 97. I had the guy come out who owns the database we use and he tried a good copy of a different database and it came up with an error as well so we know it's Access that's the problem. I have downloaded both of the reg fixers in the recommended free utilities to no avail. I'm just about ready to wipe this thing. If any one has any other suggestions I would appreciate it very much.

I found the article below, it might give you something else to try.

How about exporting your table(s) to Excel, deleting the database, creating a new blank database, then importing the data back into Access from Excel? If there's some flaw in your database, this may be a way of fixing it.

If you have Forms or Reports in your current database, I believe you may be able to export them, then import them into the new database.

Do you have other Access 97 databases that work OK? If you have no other databases, perhaps you should create a simple database just for testing to see whether Access behaves the same way with a new database.
