Access Denied! Ahh

Hey guys, well my computer is toast so I figure my last resort is to just connect my drive to another system and copy any files i really need and then format my drive and install a fresh windows, full proof? nah, i through my drive in my friends computer and i cannot access my desktop, via documents and settings then my user name for windows, i get this error, "Not Accessible" "Access is denied" I figure is it because i had a password on my account and without entering it you cannot access that desktop, i know my password and i was wondering if there is anyway i can remedy this problem and access my files before formatting! thank you in advance!
