Okay bit of a question/problem i have here.

First off i had to move my computer int he basement in my house, our router is int he room where ocmputer originally was connected via wire.

I bought a USB COMPACT WIRELESS-G adapter thinger but it does not work with windows XP 64 bit..trust me i tried everything.

So i called bestbuy/geek squad and asked if they had one that would work, they said probably not as 64bit xp is like dead water to manufactuers and what not.

So i asked him if a access point would work in reverse, instead of taking a wired internet and turning it wireless, if i can take a wireless internet and give a PC a wired internet connection, he said yes.

So i bout a linksys(to match my router) WAP54G thing and low an behold i cant get a ip address on the computer im trying to connect.

I have tried to set up the AP using the disc, and then later trying to access the config through 192.168.1.245 i got it connect twice but was booted off before i could make any changes or see what i might need to change.

going through my wireless routers settings didnt seem to shed any light on the matter either.

    So my question is this:

Was geek squad right on both claims?
What can i do to fix this problem? (without installing new OS or moving router in basement, wont work no phone lines to connect the dsl)

    Thanks guys.

    Hey Borsung,

Most wireless routers/access points have a connection distance of 30 feet or so. also the basement may be blocking some of the signal from the access point to the router.

Maybe run ethernet to the top of the stairs and secure the wireless access point close to the door.

thanks for the reply but my x360 and wii both get a excellent signal from the wireless router and they are both in the basement.

Im not trying to connect this computer to a wireless signal, im trying to take the access point to pick up a wireless signal and convert it to the ethernet cable and give my computer internet that way, geek squad said it would work but i dont think it will.

NOw im trying to set up a dual boot so the USB i bought will work but even thats turning into a nightmare....for once i regret going with 64bit Xp...but i just dont like vista :(
