Im continuing to have this problem......

There is an Microsoft Access file stored on a server in which everytime it is opened from a client it comes up as a read only file even though on the client and on the server it is not marked as such.

The same goes for any other access file that is on that server, the files are not in use by any other users or programs, When you move the file to a local client it works fine, if you move the file to another server and try to access it from the local client it works fine. This makes me think it has soemthing to do with the rights set up on that server.

I have full rights to the file and folders that it is in, I tried sharing it, i've tired giving myself rights to the file specifically and not inheriting them. nothing seems to work. the server is running widnows server 2003, the client i am trying to open it on is running windows xp professional, and the server that i moved the file that made it accessable from the client is a windows 2000 machine

Since you don't mention any use of Active Directory or Domain server, then I presume you are running as a workgroup.
    - You have upgraded XP to SP2 and Win2k to SP1 ?
    - You have given NTFS-Rights read/write AND Share-Rights read/write/execute?
    - You have made sure the account used on XP exists on Win2k3 and password is correct?
    - You have changed the Win2k3 policy Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts so the XP login will get other than guest rights.
