    Hello Helpful People,

Running XP Home with SP1. Have a user account. Let's call it ABC. Created a New User Account. Let's call it DEF. Created brand new email account on DEF. Everything works fine. Now, would like to transfer some specific messages from my OE in ABC (eg., messages residing in my Inbox or any other folder in Local Folders) to DEF's Local Folders in OE. Can I do this with Copy and Paste in Explorer? If not what is the easiest way?

    Many thx....

Do a search for the .dbx files under the "ABC" profile and import them.

Did a search for dbx files. First time got no results. Second time got MSDBX in Windows\1386. No idea what these are. Is there no way to read OE saved messages other than thru OE itself? Where are all these messages on my hard drive? Why can't I access them thru Explorer and drag and drop them to other folders?

Thx once again for helping me...

Your messages are stored in .dbx files.

You might be able to "drag" messages to the desktop when logged into your old account, but there is no other way that I know of to get an individual email from a dbx file.

If you arent finding them, then you arent searching hidden files and folders, most likely.

Thx very much for trying to help me. I finally did locate the 'dbx' files, burried in a huge number of folders. These messages are cryptic numbers, not accessible it seems by trying to open and read them. Now, trying import them is yet another matter. while in my old user account I copied one set of messages to a New Folder on the hard drive for easy accessibility. Then I opened OE in the new profile (my new user account) and went to Import Messages under File. A wizard comes up and my choices are import from Main Identity (which is not where the messages are stored), or import from storage. I chose the second option and browsed to where the messages were stored in that New Folder. When I press OK, I get the message that these messages cannot be imported because a. they are being used (not true, every other program is closed in both profiles) or b. cannot read them (which seems odd). Any ideas? Anyone else out there know how to handle this???

Leave it to Microsoft to have this bizarre, complicated method to access OE messages. No wonder people are switching to Macs.

The dbx files should not have cryptic names.

    You should have:

    folders.dbx
    inbox.dbx
    outbox.dbx
    sent.dbx

    etc. etc.

I just thought about it--you could use the FIle and Settings Transfer wizard to do this too.

When asked, the "old computer" is the old user account, the "new computer" is the new user account.

Go through a custom setup and only choose the OE stuff.

Where is this "File and Settings Wizard" that you mention? How do I access it?

    Thx...

Its located in Start > Programs > Accessories > Tools ( or just in accessories list as I may have moved it )

Have any of you tried to transfer a single dbx file from one profile to another using this Files and Settings Wizard? Let me know how you fare when you do. I can't seem to do it using any of the choices offered by the Wizard. And, again, I must say all this appears needlessly complicated. Is there no easy way to transfer a selected number of messages stored in the OE of one user's account to the OE in another user's account? (I don't even want all of the messages - just some important ones, but I can't even access these thru Explorer; the only way, it seems, is to read them while in OE).

Many thx to those who have tried to help me...

when copying DBX files you I guess get all or nothing!!

an option..... if the user accounts have different email addresses email the ones you wish to keep from one account to the other.

Would a program like DBXtract work. I thought we had it here, but can't find it. The best I can remember it's like a .dbx reader and lets you choose which messages to import / or not.
