How do you get a video capture device to recognise all video codecs installed on your machine?

Most game videos use FRAPS. FRAPS will record in a raw format, 20 minutes could easily amount to a 4gb+ file.

Now, I'll introduce you to one of the best, and relatively simple programs you can use to encode videos. Any Video capture software that records in a compressed format is usually specialized (Part of a larger package or game).

Anyways what you're looking for is Virtual Dub. you must also make sure that the codecs you download include features in encoding in said codec. For example, downloading the Divx codec doesn't mean you can encode in Divx.

@ NewsFlash: exactly what capture device are you having problems with? Camera? TV card/tuner? Video capture software?
