i had a look at the site. i checked my wan ip and it is the same one as the one given when u log into the router which is easier and quicker to get. ive heard that if you have a router that has both port forward and port trigger it is better to make it work on port forward whereas port trigger is used if port forwarding does not work. i port forwarded port 20 and 21 and still no luck. i even put it on DMZ and still no luck. i also changed the port number for the ftp server and port forwarded them and still no luck. i tried two ftp programs serv-u and bulletproof, if anyone uses any of these regularly maybe they could help me with it. if i type ftp://lanip:2025 then it finds the ftp server which means that the server is set correctly and working on lan but when i type in my wan ip in internet explorer it takes me to my router which means that it is working and then i tried ftp://wanip:2025 and it cannot find it by the way i port forwarded port 2025 on tcp and udp. i think the u.s. robotics isnt great as my linksys one.so any help would be great.

i dont know if this is problem is related to the software for creating the ftp server or if it is a problem related to the router but when i use ftp://lanip:119 using a ftp client software like flashfxp then it connects to the server with no problem but when i use the same address ftp://lanip:119 in internet explorer i get the following error below.

I dont know if this error shows up because the ftp server software doesnt support internet explorer requests or if i am setting something up wrong.maybe thats the same reason i cannot connect to the ftp server using the wan ip.thanks for looking and any ideas would be great.

this problem was solved by changing from serv-u to bulletproof.it seems like that serv-u doesnt like internet explorer or i have missed a setting. i think i will buy a different router to see if the problem is with the router.

Some times on an internal lan, using the external wan ip doesn't loopback correctly causing issues, try to ftp from another network perhaps will work better.

Cole i tried it and still no luck so i ordered also a new router to see if the problem could be with the router that it is old and they dont release any new firmwares any more.by the way is there any ftp programs that you usually use?
