Sometime in the last 24 hours, my accessories folder disappeared from my programs menu. I have a feeling that the newest windows update has something to do with it. :tas I wanted to do a system restore but can't find it without that missing folder. I am on windows XP service pack 2 on a dell computer. I need some help please!

Unless you have been farfing around with the OS, I would head to the malware section and make sure you have not picked up anything. http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407

You might can get to system restore using the Start-Search-Files and Folders and type in restore. I just noticed that points to the accessories folder, hopefully it will still work. Won't hurt anything to try it.

I tried what you suggested but none of the tools like system restore or defrag are in that list. I can't figure out what to do. It said to insert my CD which I did but then couldn't figure out what to do next so now my only option is to reformat. I scanned for malware, trojans etc after removing my own antivirus software (It expires in two weeks anyway and I don't want to resubscribe) I found nothing using Avast and a-squared and housecalls online scan.

Thank you for trying to help. I am going to assume that reformatting will not solve the problem since I believe that it was the windows update that made the folder disappear (so it stands to reason that it will disappear as soon as I update again) but I will try it anyway tomorrow or the next day. I did find system restore but that did nothing other than replace some files that I had intentionally deleted.

hehehehehe my girlfriend also sent me that link and the fix program worked. Apparently it is such a common problem that one of the microsoft whiz kids wrote a whole restore utility to fix the problem. I didn't go "farfing around with the OS". It simply disappeared on it's own.

Here is an article that my friend found to help me.

I looked for a couple of hours before I came here for help and that is where I looked . . in the locations you suggested. Plus I tried searching for it using that dog search but neither a manual search or calling the dog found anything.

    Thanks again guys!
