My problem is ACDSee suddenly won't recognize JPEG images anymore. I have Irfanview as a secondary picture browser but it is the worst picture viewer I've ever used. How do I get the darn thing to comply? There's no option for JPEG's in file associations anymore.

Reinstall the program. that should do it:D

That's what I thought too. But that didn't help.

If you installed IrfanView after ACDSee, and you set image file associations in IV during install, you can undo the association by going to Options > Set File Associations and uncheck whichever format you want (in this case JPEG) in the list.

    ACDSee vs Irfan View

    Hi There
Can't help you with ACDSee (I got rid of an earlier version it was cumbersome to use and filled the registry with all sorts of gunk) - and I have been an avid fan of Irfan ever since. I have found that it does everything required of it - takes up very little memory in use and for it's size is a giant killer for browsing, minor editing, file management, EXIF info, posting comment etc etc etc. Given all that I wonder if you have the same version of Irfan that I have
    (3.85)
Good luck with ACDSee but my vote always goes to Irfan
    Regards

I dunno about Irfanview, it doesn't seem to be either userfriendly or intuitive. But I'll have to try it since ACDSee refuses to show jpegs anymore despite it being the only picture viewer and seemingly recognizing it as a jpeg. There is no checkbox for jpegs in options either. Well, I'll try download a newer version. Maybe it's just jinxed and fuxxored.

BTW, any image file viewer is only as good as the file you're viewing. IrfanView is as good as any other, IMO. Without image manipulation, a poor quality jpg will look poor, even in Photoshop.

I just discovered Irfanview last night, and it seems absolutely wonderful! I can't believe it's free, and it seems to do most everything we need it to do.....

Kataklysmic Overkill, I wonder if you have all the plugins you need? If not, go to the homepage and you can get them all in one nice big download that is the easiest upgrade I've used!

    Good luck!

    Eric
