Ace translator spy threats

I had a strange E-Mail yesterday that said "you have activated our product with a fraudulent key and unless you buy a license within 7 days your information will be passed to the relevant authorities and you could be jailed or fined up to $100.000"
Now firstly i have (had) never heard of ace translator let alone tried to activate it.
What i am querying is how did they come by my E-Mail address and how was my iP address used on this product????
Secondly let us assume for arguments sake that i had tried to activate this product is it not illegal to surf E-Mail addresses from the iP address ??

Hi Bill...I'm not sure on the email or IP, although I'd say it's most likely like any phishing scam?

I have recently received 2 emails to my 2 email addresses - and I never submitted either of them to this company in their software.

They obviously get your "Private" information after you install their software by logging your IP and then they use that to get to your Outlook files where they find your emails and send you harassing and threatening emails in attempts to force you into buying their software.[/FONT]

(another interesting note is that cnet inserts a link if you try to copy and past a review from their site rolleyes)

This guy does mention how they get IPs, though.

I was a bit slow off the mark and never thought to look it up on the web:-o thanks for the info but i am still unsure how they came by my details as i have never loaded or used this product.
I am not going to loose any sleep over it because if the Feds:cool come knocking on my door i have got nothing to hide.
