Hello Geeks, thanks for this great forum, I'm hoping you can help me with a problem. I saw a similar post from back in August, and I tried all of the suggestions in that post, but I'm wondering if my different hardware configuration keeps those fixes from working. Here's my system specs first (keeping in mind that I built this thing, but I don't know a lot of specifics about what I put in it; yeah, I'm that kind of computer guy):-o:

    AMD Phenom quad-core 2.2GHz processor
    8Gb RAM
    Vista Ultimate 64-bit Operating System
VisionTek ATI 3650 Over-Clocked Edition 1Gb Video Card

    Other info available on request.

Now the problem: I have an Acer X223w 22" widescreen monitor, and Vista does not want to let my monitor run at its native 1680 x 1050. I managed to get it running at that resolution (after much trial and error and searching sites like this one) by uninstalling and reinstalling my video card drivers three times (didn't work until the third time, don't know why), but now if my computer shuts down for any reason (think Windows Update) I lose that settings option, my monitor defaults to either 1280 x 1024 or 800 x 600 (seems random which one it chooses). If it chooses 800 x 600, then that is the only option available; if it chooses 1280 x 1024 then I can choose anything below that, but nothing above. To make things even more fun, I also lose my signal to this monitor, and can only get it back after unplugging it, plugging in another monitor, unplugging that and re-plugging in this one. Then in order to get my 1680 x 1050 rez back I have to uninstall, delete and reinstall my video card drivers again (which involves that whole monitor switch thing every time this monitor loses its signal for even an instant).

Things I've tried (incomplete list; I'll post more as I remember them):

I've updated all of my video card drivers to the latest version. I've made sure to uninstall and delete the old ones before I install the new ones.

I've tried to install the drivers for this particular monitor, but Vista x64 isn't supported for this monitor yet, and when I try to install the x32 drivers I get an error message saying Vista doesn't need these drivers and won't install them (can't remember the exact wording of the error).

I've tried unchecking the box that hides resolutions this monitor can't use (which worked once, but never again).

I've tried getting a tweaker program to convince windows that this is a good resolution to use; the option still never shows up when I try to select resolutions.

I'm sure I've tried a couple of other things too, but they're not sticking in my mind right now because nothing is working. I can use this resolution up until I have to restart my system, and then I have a half-hour of work before I get it back again. Needless to say that's putting a serious cramp on my (way too limited already) gaming time. Halp!
