    Hi,

I have problems with an Acer 5530: it constantly shuts itself down, most probably because it gets too hot. It really happens a lot, but it sounds quite strange that the fan would actually be too small. Does anybody have an idea what the reason could be and how it could be remedied?

    Thanks in advance,
    Christian

When it shuts down next put your hand on it and feel all around the laptop. If it is abnormally hot you should be able to tell and then you're probably right about it overheating.
Where do you use it? It is common for people to use their laptops on their laps, beds, pillows, etc. and then they cut off the airflow to the machines. They should be used on hard, flat surfaces when possible.
Do you know for sure that the fan is working?
Is there a lot of dust around the intakes? I would open the machine up and see if it is particularly dusty and then clean it.
If it is overheating and none of these suggestions seem to help, you may want to invest in a laptop cooling rack. That should instantly solve your problem if it really is overheating.

    Good luck.
