Hi, I have just been given an Acer Aspire 1 without a manual and with Lupus Linux loaded as the OS.
Is it possible to format the disk and install windows XP O/S, if so how. I have not been able to find any kind of system tools to enable me to format the drive and so delete the Linux O/S.
Is it possible to do this and can I then boot and load Win XP from a USB CD Drive?
Basically , remove linux and replace with XP.
Thanks in advance and a very merry christmas to all those who help us less intelligent mortals.

    Hi,

There are many guides out there on this subject, try reading this one to get an idea of what it entails.

    Good luck.

The guides seem to be slanted towards to using a USB stick, is it any less complex from a USB CD drive??

  4. What you will do to do is, borrow or buy a USB external CD/DVD - drive.
Boot into the BIOS and make sure its the first boot device.

Now put in the XP Cd and boot into the CD

Once you get to where it shows you the drives to install on delelete all partitions create your own at the size you like, now install on that partition it will ask if you want to do a quick format or a normal format, just to be clean do a normal format, from then on you just need to follow the instructions from the XP install.

If you need any help please feel free to ask :)

If you have a USB CD drive to hand or you can borrow one, even better :) Most people don't but they usually have USB sticks.

If you have the version with the 8Gb SSD, I suggest you use nLite to create a small footprint version of XP so you have more room for Apps.

Thanks very much for the information, I think I'll buy a USB CD Drive, not very expensive now and a bit easier than trying to load from USB stick. I will certainly try nlite.
