My laptop will not boot up. When I press the power button, the power button lights up but the screen remains black. When I put my Heiren's Boot CD in, and try to boot up from that, I can hear it reading from the CD but the screen still remains black. I have tried to hook up a external monitor and the monitor still remains black.

    OS: Windows XP
    CPU/Ram: AMD Sempron 2 GHz
    Product: Acer 3000
    HD: 40 Gig
    RAM: 780 mgs

I have tried removing the ram sticks to see if it is a ram fault issue but still nothing. Is it possible that it could be a bios issue?

Has anyone else had this issue? Did you get it fixed? If so, how did you do it?

I have removed the battery but still nothing.... I am at a loss as what is going on.......

Could someone give me some advice? I appreciate all of the help! Thanks!

    Hey, kodasmom...

I know that some Aspires, both netbooks and notebooks, have had BIOS updates because of failing to boot if the battery runs out - don't know if that's what's going on with your machine, but it may be worth checking out...

Does anyone know how I can blind flash my bios with either a CD or USB stick?

Ubuntu has a pretty good little guide for making a DOS bootable USB thumbdrive - you may have to make some substitutes in the vernacular for Windows terms, but it's easy...

Don't know if a BIOS reset would help but.......... If you remove your memory sticks, under them (and possibly under a sticker as well) you will see an odd looking symbol (opposing "E's")........ Short across them and reboot. It's the same as resetting the CMOS by battery removal or jumper.

I have the exact same symptoms with a Dell running Vista.

If you have an extreme amount of patience, You "might" get it to work again after pressing the power button on and off MANY times (more than 50 times sometimes!). [I just set it to the side of me while I push the button with my left hand and use a different computer, to surf MG, with my right!]
It surprised the heck out of me the first time it booted up correctly again.:-D
    I don't know what glitch causes it to do this. {I probably removed something I shouldn't have}

Hopefully this may help some out there who have similar problems in booting up.
Now, as you can guess, I rarely turn it off.

    See if this works.

    1. Take the battery out.
    2. Unplug from the AC outlet.
    3. Hold the power button down for a minimum of 30 seconds.
    4. Plug the AC cord back in.
    5. Push the power button.
    6. Put the battery back in after it boots.
