   i am trying to reinstall xp on my acer. when i put the cd in and press f12 to the boot menu. the cd drive isn't recognizing it,
   what can i do.

   What label is on the cd?
   We need to know exactly what you are trying to boot.
   
   Have you tried alt+F10 to boot from the recovery partition?
