I have an Acer Aspire 5538 laptop, It came with windows 7 installed and my father who was going to collage to get a degree in digital art switched to ubuntu 10.04, I am trying to reinstall the windows via the Acer eRecovery Management (V7.5.15) for it from the company, but switching to from the two line image files load screen from the CDs I get error 1392 after the 6 line status bar screen where it has source, speed, time elapsed, etc. I get to like 74% done and if pops up error 1392 and the total progress bar is the only thing on screen and looks to be at 2% or 3% when it is actually at 74%. The file system is in NTFS before I install and format the hard drive yet again.

Any help is welcome for my Acer Aspire 5538.

    Hi,

    Welcome to MG. :)

You have two CDs. One is a driver CD and one is a Factory Settings CD?

Are you booting to the Factory setting CD and entering eRecovery from there? Or are you starting eRecovery some other way?

What are the first screens/messages from eRecovery where it asks you what you want to do?

I got 4 cds actually, A system disc and 3 recovery disks. The I need to use the system disc to use the recovery cds, I have the setting screens, language, then what I want to do, full wipe and reinstall to factory defaults. reinstall windows files and keep user data, and exit. I used the full erase and factory default option, it goes well into the loading image files from the cds but on the next screen of restore progress where it has source status bar, speed time elapsed/left and total progress, it gets to about 74% then gives me the 1392 error. but if I let it go to start the hard drive windows will start to load then tell me that it can not install windows on my hardware due to the 26% it needs to go to fully install

I'm wondering if making a new copy of the disc that it fails to read completely would work?

You are putting in the system disc then CD1 then CD2 and getting a read error? The error occurs while it is writing to the HD but before any reboot?

Imgburn would let you "Create an Image file from disc" (which would copy the cd to a HD on another computer) then use imgburn again to "Write that new Image file to Disc". Then try substituting the new CD for the old one during install.

that is handy advice sach, I will try that to see if it is the disk, Also Tgell I have tried alt+F10 from the acer screen, all through the attempted booting of the hard drive with the partial windows but nothing popped up from it. But I will be looking into buying another set of recovery cds from acer as soon as I get a job. This lap top I got from my father was to help me do that. right now I am at my public library on there computers, which they have strict time limits sadly.

Thank you Sach, And Tgell you helped alot and I got it fixed. Greatly I thank you. The cd must have been damaged a little enough to not read by the program, and I made sure the cd worked with the program.

I was just getting back to this thread. Glad you got it sorted. You did all the work. Congratulations! :)

Oh, remember to put those CDs away carefully. You may need them in the future since Acer only lets you burn one set.
