Ok here's my problem. I have a Acer Aspire 5735z. The keyboard is missing keys and dirty as hell, but I got a USB keyboard so it's not to much of a problem. This computer is a good few years old and it's had a hard life.
Recently however it started to over heat really bad.
I bought a fan to put underneath it and an air duster to clean the vents.
It no longer auto shuts off within minutes of booting.
However it is still running far hotter than i would like.
I have removed the bottom cover to allow the fan to work it's magic and it has dropped the temp a good 10C.
With that in mind the current temps are at
    HD: 40C
    Temp1: 76C
    Temp2: 76C
    Core 0: 84C
    Core 1: 78C

I know these are far hotter than they should be, but what do I do to cool them down?

I got my hands on a copy of Acer Empowering Technology settings control and after lowering the setting for my CPU I'm idling at
    HD1: 4C
    Temp1: 67C
    Temp2: 67C
    Core0: 72C
    Core1: 68C

Though this is a bit of a drop I was hoping for something a bit more drastic.
Any sugestions for other power settings and how to drop it farther?

Sorry for the late reply Sirus I missed this thread:major and welcome to the forum:)

It looks to me as though something is going wrong it is way too hot as you have noticed,I'm guessing those are idle temperatures?

First I'd check there isn't malware or an excess of processes running,a quick check through task manager should produce any culprits unless its malware,if you suspect malware check the malware forum and perform a basic cleanup.

The next thing to do is to get a load temperature reading using prime 95 select small ftp/just stress testing and monitor your temperatures,I recommend speedfan or sandra lite, also monitor your CPU fan speed it should increase rapidly as the test runs if montioring the rpm proves impossible find your cpu fan, during the test listen closely to it,it should start to increase in speed as the cpu gets hotter,if its doesn't there's either something wrong with the fan,the speed sensor or the temp sensor.

Sandra has a built in benchmark,I would run this benchmark which will also compare with similar cpu's or passmark will give you a comparable cpu score to see if its performing to its potential.

With regard to how far you wish to push it,I personally test all computers until failure to test for stability as stopping the test after 80C which you can if you wish won't give you a conclusion as the temperatures may be false readings, also if any workers produce errors stop the test.

With stress testing there are always risks that something could be damaged so just want you to go in with both eyes open saying that I have never damaged a computer by stress testing, they either error and the program ends, the program crashes or you get a bsod.

Depending on how dirty you want to get your hands,I would disassemble the laptop and reapply thermal paste to all the major heatsinks, I use arctic silver 5.

Check your bios for any cpu cooling features and enable them, most laptops don't have them so it will most likely be a dead end.

I would also if all else fails reinstall windows then remove all unnecessary services, this is a pretty brutal but it completely eliminates excess processes, bloatware and malware from the equation.
