    Hey,

I had a laptop given to me by a friend who has said that a pc repair company had said that it had dust particles in it. I had a quick look and although the computer doesnt power on. I really believe that it may just be a damaged power supply. Would dust particles render the motherboard useless or am i just wishing that there was another fix other than changing the motherboard?

Any help will be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

a few stray bits of dust isn't going to make a MB not work.

If the dust buildup is very heavy (not bits of dust) then it can stop the fan from spinning which leads to heat buildup. Heat buildup can take out your CPU and/or your video chip.

Before you spring for a new lap top power adapter, try to borrow one or take it to a shop where they might be able to connect another unit and test it to see if that is the problem.
Note: don't take it to the pc repair company that your friend took it to. They sound clueless.
