Acer Aspire model 5733 boot error

Hello all, have found this site quite interesting so far trying to self-service my lap-top (reading similar conversations). I have an Acer Aspire 5733 purchased last Nov. Quite unexpectedly it now is unresponsive. My boot priority order from default is IDEO, IDE1, USB FDD, Network Boot : PIONEER DID-RW DVRTD1 RS, USB HDD, USB CDROM.......that is the default setting after trying different combinations with no luck.
The error(s) I have been getting for the last few days are:
PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable
PXE-M0F: Exiting Broadcom PXE ROM.
No bootable device -- insert boot disk and press any key

I have just moved and as yet not located many things, and am currently looking for help via my cell phone.

 

That error is saying it has gone through the list of bootable devices and not found an Operating System. The PXE refers to the Network device which is usually last in the boot order.

So for some reason it is not seeing your HD. It could be a loose connection or the HD could have failed. I took a look on how to access the HD and found this video. Normally reseating the HD to see if it made a difference would be my advice but your machine may still be under warranty. Looking at the video, the screws to remove the HD cover are located under stickers. Most likely removing the stickers voids your warranty.

You may want to consider warranty service rather than troubleshooting. Because the HD has a screw to hold it in place it is unlikely it has worked loose. It more likely has suddenly failed.

One thing to try is leave the battery out and the laptop unplugged for several hours, and then plug in and see if you still get the same error. Sometimes a cool HD will boot when a warm one wont.
