Hi. I have a Acer Aspire 5610z which runs Windows Vista. I installed a pre-release copy of Windows 7 which has now expired, and am trying to boot from a back up disc I made before getting Windows 7. But when I go into the Acer recovery program it won't recognise the disc in the drive, I have tried going into BIOS and re-prioritizing the boot menu but with no luck. Any ideas? Or will I just have to restore factory settings and start again?

Bit confused by your post. Are you trying to boot a (supposedly) bootable rescue CD and it isn't working? If so, what do you mean by 'when I go into the Acer recovery program'? How are you accessing this program, and where is it located?

The recovery program is within the Acer emanagement program on the laptop, I also tried accessing it by hitting alt and F10 at start up but although I got through to the reboot option again it wouldn't recognise the disc.

Still confused. You said you were trying to boot from this CD, but it seems you are actually booting into some sort of recovery program which - because you have installed Win 7 to C - must be located on a separate recovery partition on the HDD.

So is it that this CD is actually just holding the backup? If that is the case it definitely will not be bootable, but it should be visible and restorable from the recovery program. If the recovery program cannot see the CD then there won't be any way to restore the backup I'm afraid, and you may have to settle for restoring factory settings, which I assume are on this same recovery partition.

So is this how this backup was created? If so, which type of backup did you create, and did you choose Backup or Burn Disc?

You have two choices I think:
    1. Remove the disk you created and click alt+F10 to boot into the recovery partition on the computer, eRecovery.
    2. Put the DVD restore disk in and tap F12 as computer is powered up to access the boot menu. Select the CD drive and your recovery disk should boot.

Yes, I thought that might be the case, luckily it's not my primary computer. Thanks for your help!
