acer hell

can someone recommend the best freeware and advice to help? i am repairing an acer aspire 5250 that suffered harddrive failure. i could not recover the os or create the recovery disk. my cousin has a similar acer but it does not allow recovery disks. i have used nlite to clone donor harddrives os to create custom repair disks on win98 2000pro and xp but not win 7.


i installed a new harddrive and my beta copy win7 rc1. works fine except it is now illegal. no matter microsoft sent me legal copies of vista and 7 ultimate to beta-- now illegal--- thanks microsoft

 

After installing any OS, including Win-7, I make a backup using Ghost 11.5 which works well with all versions of windows.

It's the last version of Ghost that is DOS based and boots up easily from a DOS boot floppy, CD or Flash Drive. I've been told it will even back up Ubuntu or Linux.

It just takes all the Guess-Work out of backing up your OS drive.

Acer is probably not the problem. The hard drive probably is.

has windows 7 ultimate sticker on bottom. acer says it shipped with win 7 starter by product id number. acer support are morons. acer restore disks have extra crap to waste time, cost extra money and a week to get them , free trials that dont work and useless games.

I need a way to create an image from my cousins acer laptop with win 7 ultimate and the acer program will validate the install with my legit number and i can have a legal replacement copy minus the crap

 

acer shipped this laptop with a western digital scorpio blue label 250 gig sata harddrive. i replaced it with a seagate 250 gig -- brand new and tested. the wd fried-- burnt smell and bios does not recognise it.
