Acer Laoptop freezing at start up

Hi there.
I have an Acer Aspire (4735-4401)
It will power on, and it goes directly to the black
"Acer empowering people" screen and it shows the loading bar in the bottom, it loads almost half way and thats it.
Will power back down using power switch.
Does this in both plugged in and battery modes.
From the time I press "on" to the time it freezes is approx. 4.5 seconds.
This has been happening since Saturday evening. I have periodically tried to turn on the computer various time throughout yesterday with the same result.

WOW, as I write something new just happened.....(talk about timing)

I just rebooted, and it did freeze like I have said above, then it went to my blue Vista start up screen where I enter my password, then went black right away.
I moved the mouse and it came back
I have JUST entered my password and the desktop is loading with things appearing to work.

So I can be proactive, are there reasons why this might have happened, and what (if anything) can I do to try and prevent this from happening again.

Unplug your mouse and see if the problem goes away, I had the wire go bad up near the mouse which caused similar issues.

BTW, Did you try F8 then log in to safemode?
