Recently, I was asked to look at a coworker's daughter's computer because they seemed to be unable to install a new antivirus software. After taking a look, I concluded that a cleaning was in order, so I took it to the Malware Removal Forum. Thread here.

After cleaning, I was still getting error message when trying to install Symantec Endpoint Protection:
I did a bit of searching, and found the following: Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11 client installation fails with the message "Pending system changes that require a reboot have been detected"

The rename operations were repeated entries of "\??\C:\msimg32.dll" and "\??\C:\SensApi.dll". Thing is, these files don't exist in the root of C, but rather in C:\Windows\System32. Then, I noticed some postings about these entries were about Acer Aspire laptops, and some said that uninstalling the "Acer eData Security Services" removed the problem (the registry value). The laptop I was working on has "Acer eDataSecurity Management". I won't uninstall it without the user's permission, but I thought I'd ask:

Has anyone else come across this problem?
