Scanner in question: Acer / Acerscan Prisa 310S

A friend of mine gave me an abadonned scanner from his new apartment... with no power supply or proper cables and such for hook up. So I managed to source a 12voltDC supply with a parralel port cable to boot.

And it seems I'm discovering why this scanner was abadonned, seems that it has no more support for Windows XP upgrade... I've downloaded multiple drivers from www.driverguide.com... and have attempted numerous installs and uninstalls... still nothing !

Ironically the help icon shows up in the program's folders from my start menu.

You guys are my last attempt, before I toss the scanner in the garbage :D ;)

If Microsoft haven't given it approval (something like that) you will get that message. There is a big possibility that it will still work. Hit 'continue anyway' & see if it will work.

Make a current system restore point in case you need it.

looking at your screen shot got me thinking as it said scsi drivers so i had a look and heres the drivers
    http://www.windowsxp-drivers.com/drivers/50/50101.htm
however if you read the description it says this scanners works with an interface card and not parralel port hence the drivers saying scsi so basically you need the interface card to connect this scanner and if you aint got that card then its a no go

Is 'Interface Cardi a specific card you can get -or do you mean that you'd have to get a card with a special interface -if so: which one (ie: what type of connection)?
    Thanks,

im lazy so "A SCSI card is a card that will control the interface between SCSI versions of hard drives, CD-ROM drives, CD-ROM burners, removable drives, external devices such as scanners, and any other SCSI components. Most fit in a PCI slot and there is a wide range of types. The three main types of connectors on these cards are 25-pin for SCSI-1, 50-pin for Narrow SCSI, and 68-pin for Wide SCSI (and Ultra-Wide SCSI, Ultra2-SCSI, Ultra160 SCSI, and Ultra 320 SCSI - all of which use a 68 pin connector)." (cut and pasted from the web)
anyway not knowing too much about that scanner i cant help you a lot but i would imagine its a specific card for that scanner depending how old it is you may be able to get one from the manafacturor depends how badly you want this scanner

I believe your scanner's WinXP drivers are here:

    http://www.benq.com/ss_download/drivers/imaging/mirascan_v342s.exe

Looks like you will need one for the scanner & one for the SCSI II PCI Controller card. I would think the card would come with a driver, but just in case you should download both drivers (left column & right column) shown at the above URL for the 310S/ST.

If you don't have a SCSI II card, you can get one here for around 30 bucks:

    http://www.versatech-sys.com/components/controllers.htm

Since the scanner is SCSI, a parallel cable won't work. It's been a while since I've played with SCSI stuff, but my recollection is that both SCSI and parallel cables look identical and can be easily plugged into each other's connecting ports. Unfortunately, (again, as I recall) doing this can damage either cable. This could account for some of the problems you're having.

With the ever-increasing speeds of other interfaces, SCSI seems to be on the decline. I'd suggest you check with some of the computer stores in your area to see if you can find a SCSI II card & a cable. You may be able to get everything you need for $30-$40 or so. Good luck!

This scanner shows SCSI in the installation although it is not. Mine ran for 6 years on 98 but will not load the mirascan interface and will not import the twain source into Photoshop under XP.
