Okay, I saw that there was already a topic about this problem, but I think it's a bit rude to ask for help in someone elses thread. Not to mention the thread said there was 3 posts, and no matter how I looked at it, only 2 showed up.

Anyways, much like the other poster, I have FLStudio 4, and a good deal of my samples don't work. They're wav files. I look at the properties for the . WAV with dBpoweramp, and got this error:

The CODEC required to decompress 'C:\Program Files\FLStudio\Data\Patches\Packs\HipHop\HIP_Kick_7.wav' could not be opened.
ACM Codec Not Installed 'UnKnown 26447'

I tried downloading a few ACM codecs I stumbled upon in Google (Ogg Vorbis, LAME, and some Gspot) None of them did any good. Any ideas?

Also, so there's no confusion. The post I mentioned before did not have an answer to the question in it. I believe the post that explained the solution was the one missing, as it went from question to gratitude with nothing between. So, yeah.

What kind of sound card do you have AC97 with mobo or sound blaster???

I believe it's AC97. I know that when I downloaded my Sound Drivers it came with "Sound Effect".

    (I just opened it)

Okay, I guess it is an AC97. When I open "Sound Effect" it brings up a menu type deal that says "AC97 Audio Configuration".

As for the whole "Mobo or SoundBlaster" thing, I haven't a clue. How would I go about finding out? Or is it really that important?

The Ac97 is the intergrated onboard sound as for soudblaster it is 'aftermarket' sound card.

I'm not entirely sure what that means. I'm guessing by onboard you mean it's attached to my motherboard, as for the SoundBlaster thing, I don't know?

I don't think I have a SoundBlaster sound-card. I just have this little program with my AC97 drivers that says "Sound Effect" when I hover over it on the taskbar.

The one with the tiny little arrow under it is what I'm talkin' about. Don't know if that helps or not, but yeah. There y'go.

Yes for a fact I know that is onboard Ac97 that comes inbuilt on the motherboard since I have the same thing

Okay, so then do you think this problem has anything to do with my sound-drivers?

Because I was under the impression that codecs and drivers were totally different things.

Yes they are different things. Driver's are basically for your hardware = soundcard + many many more
codecs = "codec" is short for "coder-decoder," which is pretty much what a codec does. Most audio and video formats use some sort of compression so that they don't take up a ridiculous amount of disk space. Audio and video files are compressed with a certain codec when they are saved and then decompressed by the codec when they are played back. Common codecs include MPEG and AVI for video files and WAV and AIFF for audio files. Codecs can also be used to compress streaming media (live audio and video) which makes it possible to broadcast a live audio or video clip over a broadband Internet connection

Okay. I've got another question now. Do you know what "ACM" means? Is this the name of the codec? Is this a genre of codec? Is it a type of file? This way I know what I'm looking for, rather than just downloading anything with the letters ACM attached to it.

That did help me a bit, but also totally made my target feel a lot further from my grasp. When it says it's unable to find the ACM (i.e. "ACM Codec Not Installed 'UnKnown 26447'") does that mean there's just some generic codec I'm missing? Or is there a specific, ACM "family" codec I'm missing? As in, is ACM a specific category of codec, or... Like, the term for all codecs?

Sorry if this is hard to understand, but I'm trying to make sense of a situation I don't really get.

Ok basically reinstal the ACM codec if you're so desparate to hear those waw files. Let me ask you is that the samples from frooty loops? From those sample packs if that;s the case cannot be edited with other programs except for the one you're using (copy right protection )

They are from Fruity Loops, yes. But it's not a matter of me editing them, it's simply that I cannot use them. At all. For anything. They just don't play because of me lacking a codec.

If I were you i would try reinstalling. It's like .avi or divix movies. you need certain codecds to play them. Matter of fact try getting those samples fresh again reinstall codecs and even frooty oppttyy doopty doo and if it doesn't work just get rid of it. it's garbage anyway :)

For starters, Fruity Loops is a great program that does what I need it to do wondefuly. I've been using it for years, but have simply been working around this problem, rather than through it. Second, I've tried that. I've installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, formated, etc. Nothing. Maybe I need to update FLS to the next version (or higher)... Hm... I think I'll try that.

Anyways. It's 9:30 AM PST, I haven't slept since yesterday. I'm done for the night / day. Thanks for your help, bailmeout. Appreciate it.

No problem but updating wont help it.
I seriously doubt it. Just get every single codec you can get you hands on. Something is bound to work.

    I got it!

I was going to try to download an update for FLStudio 4 on Limewire when I found this file:

VERY IMPORTANT! download this codec (Ogg Vorbis ACM Codec) to play wav files in Fruityloops - Fruity loops - FLStudio - FL Studio 4 that can't play! (red color) (1).zip

First I thought, "That's SO a virus...", then I started thinking. "I've downloaded a handful of random codecs from shadier places already... What the hell", and it worked! I installed it, and it worked. Flawless. YES!

I already had this, only problem I guess was I hadn't installed that. Had to rightclick the file and "Install" it. Yay.

    Glad it all worked out
