I use the free tool Acrobat Reader DC (version 18.009.20050). I have several large pdf documents created by others. Each pdf file was created by scanning the document so that each page of the document is a picture in the pdf file. I am not able to search the documents for text using the standard Acrobat Reader search mechanism. Is there a way to configure the pdf files so that the text is searchable? Perhaps there is a free tool that allows me to do this?

I also tried some of the free online PDF to Word tools. The Word documents created by these tools duplicated the pictures and did not allow text searching in the Word document.

I saw online that in some versions of Acrobat Reader there is a "Tools --> Text Recognition" option. This option does not exist in my version of Acrobat.

Eldon - thank you. I tried PDF-XChange Editor and love it. Great tool.

    You're welcome.
I prefer the Viewer as it's a much smaller download - 17 MB vs. 142 MB.
